Kathryn sat at her desk, going over one of the many notes on her desk as her class filed into her classroom and took their seats. Once they had settled a bit, she stood and walked around the desk to speak to them. "Today we are going to go over The Whomping Willow. The Whomping Willow, as some of you may know, can be extremely dangerous, but one can eliminate the tree's threat with the proper care and knowledge."

Kathryn had been walking around the classroom as she spoke to them, and now returned to the front, facing her students once more. "The Whomping Willow was planted here at Hogwarts many years ago, and very few knew how to...shall we say tame it. One way is by the Immobulus charm, though there is another way, which is to press a certain knot at the base of its trunk, if you can get close enough that it. Now, it is now common knowledge that there is a passage to the Shrieking Shack under The Whomping Willow, though it is NOT commonly known WHY that passage exists."

"That passage played a great, monumental part in The Second War, as I'm sure you all know, but it served another purpose, years before even The First War, which brings us to your homework assignment." She pointed her wand at her desk, and a stack of papers floated around the room, one landing on each students desk. "I want you to answer these questions on The Whomping Willow, and make sure you give sources for your answers! Even if it's something like 'I already knew this before the lesson because I read such and such book'. If I do not see sources, you will not get credit for that question. Now, I've got lots to do, so off you go."
